Cut and Seal
Honed concrete is also known as a cut and seal. This application uses penetrating or topical sealer after cutting to desired aggregate exposure. A grit can be applied if using a topical sealer which is a good option for outside areas or where slip resistance is required. Using a penetrating sealer will give the honed concrete a matte look and a beautiful, raw natural finish. For slip resistance, a slight acid etch is an option when using a penetrating sealer. Honed concrete is functional for outside areas and low maintenance. Honed concrete will need to be re-sealed periodically, approximately every 3-5 years dependent upon how highly trafficked the concrete is.
